I recently sat down with Tom Gale, president of Gale Media, for a fascinating behind the scenes look at how MDM delivers quality, timely information to its readers.

Tom explained how MDM has a periodic review of its strategy, deliverables, and its mission to make sure that it's providing distribution executives with the best possible insights into current and future events.

To make sure that it's staying on top of the most important trends, the company has an annual two day strategic meeting where it analyzes recent events. Monthly reviews ensure that those priorities haven't changed.

Over the last several years, MDM has evolved from being a publishing company to more of a research company that examines both qualitative and quantitative market data. To help with the publication, MDM has set up an editorial advisory board consisting of eight leading manufacturers and distributors who provide input on story ideas and research areas.

MDM also has three full-time researchers and editors on its staff. A lot of what they do, in addition to building out the day-to-day content on MDM's platforms, is oriented around research projects. This allows MDM to contract and product research for the associations it operates in and works with.

MDM is also evolving of terms of how it provides its content. Tom explains that more and more people are becoming accustomed to on-demand, so MDM has put a greater emphasis on digital content including webinars and other videos in recent years.

Like any business, MDM has worked to develop its informational and educational products in all of the formats that its customers like. Today MDM reaches about 24,000 wholesale distribution executives daily with its MDM update and has hundreds attend its webinars which feature leading thinkers in the industry.
